Everest Basecamp Trek

Overview

Everest Base Camp Trek – 14 Days

Overview

Everest Base Camp Trek is probably the best known of all the treks in the world. It is the dream of every traveler to set foot on the Base Camp of Mt. Everest and enjoy the breathtakingly stunning natural beauty of the mountainous terrain surrounding them.

Leaving Kathmandu we fly to Lukla.  Then our trek to Everest Base Camp begins, passing through lush sub-tropical forest, farmland and swaying suspension bridges. We cross the glistening crystal clear blue  fast flowing Dudh Koshi River then traverse dense forest to reach the barren land at higher altitude. It is a six hour uphill climb with steep steps from Phakding to Namche Bazaar, the largest Sherpa settlement in the Khumbu region, with a local market, restaurants and Wi-Fi cafes. To reach Namche Bazaar at an elevation of 3,440 meters requires both physical and mental effort.

After one day acclimatization at Namche Bazaar we head towards the renowned viewpoint of Kalapathar, as we approach Everest Base Camp to see the highest mountain on the planet. The spectacular view of Mt Everest from Kalapathar is awesome and unmatched.

The friendly hospitality of the Sherpa people of the Everest region make trekkers feel welcome to their villages. This trip is justifiably famous not only for its access to Everest Base Camp but also to experience Sherpa culture and tradition, to visit Buddhist monasteries, and to observe the local festivals. While trekking, you will enjoy a 360 degree view of the best mountain scenery on the planet. During the trek our guide provides cozy accommodation and decent food to trekkers at traditional teahouses along the way. The atmosphere of the teahouses is most enjoyable and fascinating.

The rest of the day you may enjoy yourself strolling around at Phakding. Overnight at Phakding

Day 03: Phakding to Namche Bazaar (3440m/11,283ft) 5-6 hrs

Today we will take a gentle uphill climb through an alpine valley, crossing the Dudh Kosi River a few times before reaching Namche Bazaar, one of the largest Sherpa-dominated settlements of the Khumbu region. It is the gateway to Everest Base Camp.  On a clear day you will enjoy panoramic views of Everest, Lhotse, Thamserku, Kusum Kangrue, Kwangde and Taweche on the way to Namche Bazaar. Overnight at Namche Bazaar

Day 04: Rest and acclimatization day at Namche Bazaar

In Namche Bazaar we will spend one day for acclimatization before heading to higher altitudes in the Khumbu region. Spending one day at rest in Namche Bazaari s mandatory for every trekker. It also provides an opportunity to explore the town.  You can visit the Sherpa museum to understand more about Sherpa culture and the interesting history of mountaineering. If you are lucky, you can also visit a local marketplace on a Saturday.  Overnight at Namche Bazaar

Day 05:  Namche Bazaar to Tengboche (3870m/12,684ft) 6 hrs

After breakfast in Namche Bazaar we will set out towards Tengboche. While trekking you will enjoy mesmerizing views of the Himalayan Mountain range, gazing at Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, Thamserku , Kwangde and many other peaks. The trail now is more open and wide. We slowly descend to the Dudh Kosi River and stop for lunch at Phunkitenga. After lunch we climb steeply through a beautiful rhododendron forest (blooms only in spring) for almost 2 hours and eventually reach Tengboche, which has one of the largest Buddhist monasteries in Khumbu region. Here you will visit the monastery and watch how the monks busy themselves performing Buddhist rituals. Overnight at Tengboche

Day 06: Tengboche to Dingboche (4400m/14,435 ft) 6 hrs

The first stretch of the trek from Tengboche to Dingboche goes through some pretty nice shady forest trails, full of Birches, Conifers and Rhododendrons. The trail continues along the ridge on our right side all the way until we reach Pangboche village.  We will have our lunch at Orsho. From this place you will see the first glimpse of Mt. Pumori (7165m).  After lunch you will trek through a wide valley and arrive at the meeting point of the trail to Pheriche and Dingboche.  Dingboche is located in an open valley where you will take another rest to acclimatize at higher altitude. Overnight at Dingboche

Day 07: Rest and acclimatization day at Dingboche

Today we will explore the surrounding wide valleys of Chhukung and Imja. Alternatively you can hike high above Dingboche to Dingboche peak to view the village below.  The peak is very close to Mount Nuptse. Overnight at Dingboche

Day 08:  Dingboche to Lobuche (4900m/16,076 ft) 6-7 hrs

From Dingboche, the trail moves to the north-west Khumbu valley and it becomes more difficult due to the higher altitude. On the way you will pass through Dughala. The trail is steep until we reach the memorial place dedicated to those climbers and trekkers who have died while climbing Everest. Then, the trail drops a bit and follows the western side of the valley to Lobuche, a small settlement with outstanding views of Mount Lobuche and other peaks. Overnight at Lobuche

Day 09 :  Lobuche to Gorakshep (5180m/16,994ft)  3 hrs & Everest Base Camp (5364m/17,598 ft) & back to Gorakshep 6-8 hrs

Today’s trek is relatively easy from Lobuche to Gorakshep.  The trail to Everest Base Camp is difficult, because of rocky dunes and moraines, formed by the accumulation of unconsolidated glacial debris. On the way to your dream destination, you will also explore the popular Khumbu Glacier and icefall, located on the slopes of Everest. At Everest Base Camp, you will encounter some climbers waiting to scale the Everest summit. During the spring climbing season, you can take some photographs of unbelievable views of breathtaking mountains. As the afternoon sun starts to wane, we will take you back to Gorakshep for an overnight stay.

Day 10: Gorakshep to Kalapathar (5545m/18,192 ft) & Pheriche (4320m/14,173 ft) 5-6 hrs

We wake up quite early before dawn and begin our excursion to Kalapathar (literally means “black rock”) to see a glorious sunrise over Mount Everest. Morning’s first light will reflect on Nuptse and Lhotse and it will be the best moment to take amazing photographs of Everest and its neighbouring peaks. Then we return to Gorakshep for breakfast and walk down towards Pheriche.  It will be an easy walk. Overnight at Pheriche

Day 11: Pheriche to Namche Bazaar (3440m/11,284ft) 7-8 hrs

After breakfast at Pheriche we start our trek, slowly ascending to Tashinga village where we cross a suspension bridge over the Dudh Kosi River and continue along an easy flat trail to Namche Bazaar. We end our trek for the day on arrival at Namche Bazaar. Overnight at Namche Bazaar

Day 12:  Namche Bazaar to Lukla (2800m/9184 ft) 6-7 hrs

On this final day’s trek we reach Lukla. It will be a 7 to 8 hours walk that takes us through several villages such as Jorsale, Monjo, Phakding, Ghat, Thado Koshi, and Cheplung. On arrival in Lukla you will have time to relax and celebrate the completion of your trek with your trekking staff. This will be your last night in the mountains. Overnight at Lukla

Day 13: Lukla to Kathmandu  – fly 35 min

This morning you will be transferred to Lukla airstrip for your flight back to Kathmandu. The 35 minute flight to Kathmandu usually leaves early from Lukla but sometimes the flight departure schedule depends on the weather conditions. Himalayan Mantra Trek will organize a farewell dinner for your group. Overnight at Kathmandu Mantra Home Hotel
