Chisopani-Nagarkot Short Trek -5 days


This 5- day Chisopani-Nagarkot  Short Trek is ideal for those who  have limited holiday  time  in Nepal but  want to discover beauty of the countryside not being far away from Kathmandu and experience  about the local culture and traditional lifestyle of the rural people. On this trek one has to do  hill walking through temperate forests and alpine pastures, beautiful villages viewing Himalayan mountain range. Early in the morning we make a 45 min drive from Kathmandu  up to trail head at Sundarijal and then  slowly walk uphill to Chisapani. The first two hours climb is very challenging, a straight continuous steep uphill path. During the first two hours of trekking we traverse through Shivapuri National Park. After 3 hours of trekking we will start moving downhill until we reach Chisapani. It is a very beautiful place to spend overnight. We can see Himalayan mountain range including Ganesh Himal and entire Langtang range from this village. In Chisapani, you will find many resorts and hotels for night stay. The morning view of the  mountain range from hotel is  awesome. The weather in Chisapani is always cool and pleasant as its name ‘ Chisapani’, literally means cold water. Here you will enjoy the real boon of nature being away from the hustle and bustle of city life .Despite it trekkers can get a chance to interact with the local villagers and experience their culture and traditional lifestyle.

Leaving Chisapani village we head to our next destination- Nagarkot. On the way you hear only birds chirping and find yourself on the trails except a few number of grazing cattle. Nagarkot is considered one of the best spot to see stunning Himalayas, sunrise and sunset. Even locals love to visit here to enjoy the beauty of nature and to rejuvenate their body, mind and spirit in a tranquil environment. After Nagarkot visit we return to Kathmandu and conclude the trip. This trek is suitable for hikers of all levels and age.

Short Itinerary:

Day 01: Arrive in Kathmandu (1300m/4,265ft.) & transfer to Hotel

Day 02: Drive to Sundarijal (1350m/4429ft) & trek to Chisopani (2340m/ 7677ft) 5 hrs walk

Day 03:  Trek from Chisapani  ( 2,115m/  6,938ft )  to  Nagarkot (2195m/ 7201ft) 5hrs walk

Day 04: Enjoy Sunrise view in Nagarkot and trek to Changunarayan (1541m/ 5055ft)

Day 05: Transfer to international airport for your final departure


Detail Itinerary

Day 01: Arrive in Kathmandu (1300m/4,265ft.) & transfer to Hotel

Upon arrival at the Tribhuwan International Airport in Kathmandu, you will be welcomed by Himalayan Mantra representative and transferred to your hotel. Today is simply an arrival day and there will be no any organized activities. So, you will have some free time to relax or walk around for local sights. A brief meeting will be held in the evening at hotel lobby. During the meeting you will be introduced with our trekking guide. Overnight at hotel in Kathmandu

Day 02: Drive to Sundarijal (1350m/4429ft) & trek to Chisopani (2340m/ 7677ft ) 5 hrs walk

After breakfast depart at 8 am to Sundarijal which is 13 km. away from Kathmandu. It is located at the elevation of 1350m. We begin our trek from here. Beyond Sundarijal, the trail climbs continuously through forest to a medieval -looking reservoir, the dam and waterworks. The trail leaves the water supply system and climbs steeply to a road to 1550m. After crossing the road we continue climb to the top of the Shivapuri ridge, the first village on the trail with the sprawling Tamang settlement of Milkshake at 1895m. There are few small tea shops where you can sit for a cup of tea and enjoy a spectacular panoramic view of the Kathmandu Valley. Beyond Mulkharka, the trail continues to climb steadily. After passing through an army camp, the trail enters the Shivapuri National Park. Most of the Shivapuri ridge is dense forest of pine and oak. Climb continues down the ridge through a forest of oak and rhododendron to Chisapani at 2300m Stay overnight at Chisapani in a teahouse.

Day 03: Trek from Chisapani  ( 2,115m/  6,938ft )  to  Nagarkot (2195m/ 7201ft) 5hrs walk

After breakfast we begin our trek through flat trails for about 3 hours. The trail descends almost two hours then we will reach small village called Chowki Bhanjyang where we will have our lunch. Beyond Chowki Bhabjyang, the trail is flat for almost one and a half hours then we make 30 minutes ascent to arrive at the beautiful Hill station called Nagarkot, situated at an altitude of 2175 m. which offers the beautiful panoramic views of the Himalayas. You can see five of the fourteen 8,000 metres tallest mountains of the world, including Mt. Everest (8848 m.) Lhotse (8516 m.), Cho Oyu (8201 m.), Makalu (8463 m.) and Manaslu (8163 m.) and many other peaks. The view of the peaks looks gorgeous during Sunrise and Sunset. Stay overnight at hotel  in Nagarkot

Day 04: Enjoy Sunrise view in Nagarkot and trek to Changunarayan (1541m/ 5055ft)

Wake up early morning for the sunrise view and after breakfast an easy walk down to Changunarayan, one of the UNESCO listed world heritage site. This is a fifth century made Temple located over a hillock. It is made up of full of artistic works on metal and wood. Inscription dating back to 464 AD found here is the first epigraphic evidences of Nepalese history. After visiting this Temple, you  will  spend some time in Bhaktapur Durbar Square on the way to Kathmandu. There are many monuments of Historical significant places to explore in Bhaktapur that includes a -five storey Temple known as Nyatapola, 55 Windows Palace, Golden Gate, Lion Gate and many more. From here we drive to Kathmandu. Stay overnight at hotel  in Kathmandu

Day 05: Transfer to international airport for your final departure

A representative from Himalaya Mantra will make departure transfer for you to Tribhuvan International Airport as per your flight departure time.
