Kathmandu – Bhaktapur- Patan Tour – 5 Days


Explore some of Nepal’s UNESCO World Heritage Cultural  Sites in the Kathmandu valley. From religious sites like Pashupatinath  and Swayambhunath to cultural riches Kathmandu-Bhaktapur and Patan Durbar Square in three medieval cities.

Nepal‘s capital city- Kathmandu has enriched with some of the most iconic landmarks, many of which are protected by World Heritage status. Step back in time at Malla ruling dynasty of Nepal 1201-1769 A.D. Royal Palace and Hindu temples in Patan, Bhaktapur Durbar Square, Basantapur Palace complex, Old Royal Palace Square in Kathmandu and many other monuments were built. All the fine examples of art and architecture and the beautiful pagodas in the shape of temples came into existence during the Malla period. The temple of Pashupatinath was erected in the 15th century by Lichhavi King Shupuspa Deva but its existence was dated back to 400 B.C. There are many legends which explain how the temple of Lord Pashupatinath came to existence.

The main temple of Pashupatinath is a pagoda style building with a bunk roof and a golden spire and is considered a landmark of Hindu architecture. 

According to earliest written record of a 5th-century stone inscription, Swayambunath Stupa was found as early as in the 1st century A.D.  It is considered one of Nepal’s oldest Buddhist temples.

Detail Itinerary

Day 01: Arrival in  Kathmandu and Transfer to Hotel

Upon arrival at Kathmandu airport Himalayan Mantra Representative will welcome and greet you and transfer to hotel. Today is simply an arrival day and there will be no any organized activities. So, you will have some free time to relax or walk around for local sights. Overnight at hotel

Day 02: Kathmandu Sightseeing

Sightseeing in Kathmandu: After breakfast, your guide will pick you up at hotel for sightseeing to world heritage sites of Kathmandu Durbar Square, Swayambunath, Pashupatinath and Boudhanath.

Walk through the colorful Ason Bazaar to Kathmandu Durbar Square. Listed as a Cultural World Heritage site by UNESCO, Kathmandu Durbar Square is a cluster of ancient temples, palaces, courtyards and streets that date back to the 12th and 18th centuries. The square is known to be the social, religious and urban focal point of the Capital City. At the southern end of the Durbar Square, there is the most curious attraction of Nepal, the Kumari Chowk. You would be able to see a Kumari House, where the Living Goddess of Nepal resides. The living Goddess, Kumari, is a young girl who is chosen through an ancient and mystical selection process to become the human incarnation of Hindu Goddess, Taleju (the goddess of power).

Continue to Swayambunath stupa on a hillock over looking Kathmandu valley. Well known as ‘Monkey Temple’ the golden spire crowning, Soyambhunath is the most ancient and mystical of all the holy shrines in Kathmandu valley. Then, visit the temple of Pashupatinath –the seat of the national deity, Lord Pashupatinath. Situated at the holy river Bgmati,  Aryaghat of Pashupati is the most sacred and popular cremation site of Nepal. Late afternoon, visit Boudhanath, possibly the world’s largest Buddhist stupa and a site of great veneration and Tibetan cultural. Visit Tibetan monastery and painting school. Overnight at hotel

Day 03: Visit Bhaktapur and  Nagarkot (2200m)

After breakfast, drive to Bhaktapur for sightseeing tour to UNESCO World Heritage Site of  Bhaktapur Durbar square. Then drive to Nagarkot for outstanding views of Himalayas.

Bhaktapur, meaning the “city of devotees” lies 14 km east of Kathmandu. It is the home to medieval art & architecture and still retains its rich medieval aroma. A city of farmers, Bhaktapur is also known for its pottery and weaving. The intricately carved temples, alleyways and timeless atmosphere of this place are simply fascinating. Bhaktapur Durbar Square is located in the center of Bhaktapur. The Square is one of the most charming architectural showpieces of the Valley as it highlights some of the finest medieval arts of Nepal.

After tour at Bhaktapur, we drive to Nagarkot. The sunrise viewed from this hill (2200m) present you the ever-refreshing memory of the majestic panoramic view of the Himalayan ranges from Dhaulagiri in the west and Mt. Everest in the east. Overnight at hotel in Nagarkot

Day 04: Return to Kathmandu via Patan

On the way back to Kathmandu, visit another world heritage site – Patan Durbar Square. The ancient name of Patan is Lalitpur, meaning city of beauty. Located on the southern banks of the Bagmati River, Patan is one of the three main cities in Kathmandu Valley. The city is believed to be the first settlement in the Valley and was established by the Kirat dynasty in the 3rd century BC. Patan is famous for its amazing collection of fantastically carved temples, palace courtyards, water spouts, public baths and houses with their equally elaborate wood, stone and metal carvings under the patronages of the Kirat, Lichivi and Malla kings.  After lunch, free time in Kathmandu for shopping or wandering on your own. Day 05: Transfer to international airport for your final departure

A representative from Himalayan Mantra will make departure transfer for you to Tribhuvan International Airport as per your flight departure time.
